Paul Cummins MBE is a world-renowned artist, ceramicist, and metalworker. Born in 1977 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, he draws inspiration from his background in architectural model-making, but primarily from the natural world. In 2014, Cummins became a household name for his monumental art installation at the Tower of London, Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red, created in collaboration with stage designer Tom Piper. The piece featured 888,246 handmade red ceramic poppies filling the Tower’s moat to mark the First World War centenary. In recognition of this work, both Cummins and Piper were awarded MBEs in 2015 for services to art and First World War commemorations. Known for his vibrant floral motifs and large-scale architectural works, Cummins’ high-profile commissions include an 8-metre ceramic tulip installation (Candy) for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, ceramic tulips for Chatsworth House’s annual Florabundance event, and major installations for Blenheim Palace, Althorp Estate, Derby Royal Hospital, The Conran Shop, and the 2012 Cultural Olympiad. Because many of Paul's installations comprise thousands of delicate ceramic components, individual pieces frequently come into our studio for professional repair and restoration.
